Rm. 106. General Information My students and I will work together throughout the year to make room 106 an active, productive and cooperative, learning environment. We live by the 3 R's: Respect yourself. Respect Others. Responsibility for your actions. Homework Expectations Daily assignments are written in the student's agenda. The students check off what they have completed each day and mark what they have not completed with a HW, or a FT if it will be "for tomorrow." If for some reason a student is unable to complete their homework, I need to receive a note in the agenda from the parent. Students can stay after school until 3:55 to complete their work, and may come in at 8:20 a.m. the next morning if they were unable to finish their homework the night before. Please continue to sign your child's agenda everyday. Agendas and all school books should be at school everyday. It creates a problem for the student if they do not have their books at school. It is also important for yellow assessments books to be signed each week and brought back promptly. Spelling pretests are on Mondays. Students will be given a copy of the spelling list to take and keep at home on Mondays. They should practise these words throughout the week. Final spelling tests are on Friday mornings. Scholastic Book Orders: Each month your child will bring home the Scholastic Book Club order forms. Please complete the forms and return them with a cheque made out to Scholastic if you wish to place an order. Please do not send cash . You will find the due date on the calendar each month. When calculating how much you owe please be mindful of the Ontario price column (can't forget the PST on some items!). Each month a certain percentage of sales is used to supply our classroom with free books. What’s Happening in 3L Room 106 April 2010
We have a very busy third and final term. Please keep signing your child’s agenda. Test dates will be announced and posted on the reminder board during class.
Reading: We will be working on independent reading activities as well as working in guided reading groups. Reading and writing activities will be completed, using the books from the momentum series. The grade three final book report outline and rubric will be sent home on April 12th. This book report will be on a chapter book. I have several chapter books, as does the school library, which the students can borrow if they are having trouble deciding on a book. Writing: April is poetry month. Starting on April 12th we will have "Poets of the Day" where each student will share their favourite poem with the class. Each student has been given a date to bring in their favourite poem to read. It will be recorded in their agenda. They should rehearse their poem at home, focussing on volume and expression while reading it. On the day they present each student will be asked to tell why they chose the poem, what they like about the poem and to make a connection to the poem. The students will also be writing some of their own poems which follow a specific pattern. Media Literacy: The students will be introduced to the computer program called Photo Story 3. They will be expected to create a slide show presentation, applying the skills they have learned using this program. We will be in the lab periods 3 and 4 every day 2 starting on April 8th until May 20th to complete this project. Math I am happy to see more students bringing home their math books on Wednesday nights to prepare for their weekly Thursday math quizzes. It helps to make all corrections and to review new vocabulary and concepts by reading through the Quick reviews in their green duotangs and the Connect in their textbooks. Topics this month include: Measurement: Money, perimeter and area and Number Sense and Numeration: 1. Review of subtraction and addition with regrouping 2. Fractions Social Studies: Urban and Rural Communities. We look forward to our class trip to Brooklin’s arena for the Farm Connections program. It allows the students to be introduced to life on the farm. This program was well received last year. Our Urban and Rural unit will be wrapped up this month. A test will be scheduled for the week of April 26th. Thank you for your continued support!!
